The Ryde Art Collective is a group of diverse contemporary artists bringing work together for exhibition using both traditional and technology media.

Our work is inspired by personal and everyday experiences, questioning the human condition through storytelling, emotion, traces of history, and an interplay of chance and space.

THE ARTISTS

  • Mandy Bangerter

    TEXTILE & MIXED MEDIA
Mandy is a textile and mixed media artist who stitches together the layers of stories, place and emotions using meditative hand stitch and free machine embroidery.

  • Zoë Barker

    PHOTOGRAPHER
Zoë Barker is a photographer living and working on the Isle of Wight. Shooting predominantly on film with a medium format camera and handheld light meter, her meticulous approach allows her the time to appreciate the minutiae of our everyday world.

  • Gillian Clarke

    MIXED MEDIA
Gillian uses many different media to explore her ideas. These include painting, drawing, collage, printing and ceramics. Ideas, too, are many and varied; for example, finding inspiration in the natural world, the pressure on young people, particularly in this digital world.

  • Vincent Dupont-Blackshaw

    PHOTOGRAPHER
French photographer, based on the Isle of Wight, Vincent looks for moments that are quietly unique. Often an isolated thing or person in an environment that on first glance is ordinary but on second glance tells a subtle story.

  • Fran Farrar

    PRINTMAKER
Fran Farrar is an Island based artist printmaker who uses etching, monotype printing and paper manipulation to explore personal emotional responses relating to identity and ancestry.

  • Jan Frith

    DIGITAL MEDIA
Jan works with time-based media and technology, usually combined with three dimensional objects or explored through interactive installations. Social commentary is often implicit within her work.

  • Barbara Gowan

    MIXED MEDIA
Barbara Gowan is a multidisciplinary self-educated, artist based on the Isle of Wight. She has spent the last forty years devoting herself to the study of art.

  • Violet Mareck

    MIXED MEDIA
The exhibition will feature a selection of work made recently and over the last four years focusing on Violet’s preoccupation with the mind and how memories and circumstance influence who we are.

  • Richard May

    MIXED MEDIA
Richard works in a variety of media on a variety of scales and surfaces.  His work is abstract, reflecting on places, events and experiences, often working over a period of time and through several versions of each image.

  • Karen Mead

    MIXED MEDIA
Karen Mead creates figurative, often humorous images that reveal the lives of mature women. She is particularly interested in the conflict between societal expectations and individual acts of rebellion against those expectations.

  • Fiona Schindler

    MIXED MEDIA
Fiona's work is primarily about loss. The loss of home, family and culture at an early age informs much of her work. That which is missing and the irreplaceable.
